50 Shades of Grey: The stuff that really makes you happy

While I recognise you might have clicked on this for a review of the book that spread faster than a cold in an office; you’re sadly mistaken. However, this is the stuff that creates genuine screams and squeals, real excitement and a feeling of pure happiness; why I’m talking about makeup of course.

But in true dedication to the cheeky literature by E. L. James, I’ve chosen items from the amazing www.thelondonperfumecompany.com website and I’m sharing the real pieces of Grey you want to experience.

The Perfume Bottle: Stash or Trash?

Perfume! Whether sweet, woody, fruity or musky – everyone has a favourite. People today use perfumes like an accessory. You’ve got your hair done; clothes smart and jewellery present… what tops it off? A good squirt of your favourite fragrance of course!

Perfume has become ‘wearable art’ – just like clothes and jewellery – it takes careful consideration to choose the perfect product.

So with this in mind I was clearing out my apartment as I had way too much clutter for my own good. Out went the stacks of magazines that were piled so high they were taller than my 2 year old nephew and out went the makeup cases that have been empty for years (but because they cost me a small fortune I couldn’t bear to dispose of them). Anyway slight tangent but it brings me to my question…

Have you ever kept hold of your old perfume even though it’s run out simply because the bottle is so beautiful?

Yep, me too..

It got me thinking as to just how many people took part in, what can only be described as, ‘unnecessary hoarding’ .. and I was pleasantly surprised that it’s not a totally crazy thing to do.

So here are a few bottles that I fell in love with and not only would keep if they were mine, but I want them anyway! Enjoy.

The unspoken rule of the red carpet: The Emmys.

Because I’m not going to let you go out looking like this….

When it comes to the red carpet, there is no room for error. All eyes are on you, all camera lenses are on you and most of all the public are looking at you in anticipation to judge you solely on how you look. This is important; these photos will be used for years to come, whether it’s for the award you won or for how fabulous you looked, or how not so fabulous you looked… You don’t want to end up on the circle of shame section for thousands to see, so let’s go through the unspoken rule of the red carpet, this week: The Emmys.

When it comes to makeup, a general rule I like to use when considering eye makeup and lips is, ‘it’s one or the other’. If you want to go with a heavy or dramatic eye look, then keep the lips simple and natural. Vice versa, when you can’t wait to try out your new bright red lippy, make sure your eyes have minimal application of products. This way, you won’t look like a drag-queen, unless that’s your thing of course.

The Emmys which were held on Sunday 23rd of September, made us makeup-junkies and fashion-addicts all over the world wait in anticipation for the first photos to go viral.

We saw, we took note and we were inspired.

Kelly Osbourne showed us when it came to ‘all or nothing’ she was going for it all. I’m loving her perfectly shaped brows which not only look amazing but make such a difference to the shape of her face. She rocked a vampish rouge lip, teaming it with light –but-still-grey- eyeshadow and a simple eyeliner flick to create the all-round full on look. And it worked. Oh and if anyone can pull off the granny-grey barnet, it’s Miss Osbourne.

The stunning Hayden Panettiere looked fault-free whilst wearing what looks like next-to-nothing. This girl chose the ‘nothing’ look and pulled it off. Too well.  I’m loving her bronzed eye-shadow with the blended eye-liner look. This looks amazing on anyone, regardless of your eye-colour. Promise. She’s topped off her effortless, beige tones with a simple neutral tinted lipbalm for the ultimate natural look. But we all know just how much works goes into a ‘natural’ look – don’t we girls!

So how would you makeup your face for The Emmys?

London Fashion Week 2012: Nailed it.

Try something different with your nails – in the name of fashion! #LFW

A few seasons ago, the biggest dilemma we had with nail polish was whether to pick the dark pink or the barely there pink. Then the term ‘nail art’ exploded, we found ourselves saying goodbye to ‘it’ colours and here we are, with a basic rule of ‘anything goes’.

London Fashion Week 2012 showed us that nails are making their mark on the fashion scene. It’s like their clothes are wearable art, but this, this is nail-art – and it’s fabulous!

You can play around with nail varnish; from a different colour on each nail, a sheet of separate glitter and even the new magnetic effect.

Your nails are your accessory when you can’t find that perfect ring, they beautify your hands when that bracelet just doesn’t quite go and they add something extra to your natural outfit with minimum effort.
Statement nails were a BIG summer hit and thanks to the thousands of different colours, styles and effects, the only difficult bit is choosing your look. Now it’s just getting bigger and better!

Clash them, match them, alternate them; they are your personality. Whether you want a quick fix of the cheap stuff or you want to dab your finger in the more expensive liquid, your nails can be the cherry on the cake if you choose well.

Designers such as Victoria Beckham, Donna Karen and Alexander McQueen embrace such designs to enhance their beautiful creations.
Forget about the bag, shoes and lip gloss – your nails are the most fashion-forward thing to concentrate on.

The action going on inside Somerset House during London Fashion Week 2012 proved that nail polish is making its mark on the fashion scene. It’s like their clothes are wearable art, but this, this is nail-art – and it’s fabulous!
Last week we saw London bring the biggest and the best to the world of fashion! Themes of ‘an irreverent English country garden’, energetic print, geek-chic and numerical themes blasted through the catwalk and everybody took immediate note.

I’m not saying you should put such extravagant pieces of elegance on your little old nails, nor pull out those rhinestones on your Topshop ring to superglue them onto your pinkies, nothing of the sort – but next time you’re browsing the nail varnish on your next makeup shop, go a bit crazy and think outside the box. Veer away from your usual monotone bus-red. Because next year, regardless of the rubbish British weather reports, it’s going to get even hotter.

This black shatter is a MUST-HAVE beautybag buy to get the ultimate quirky nail-art. £7.99 @ http://www.thelondonperfumecompany.com

You will get that feeling of achievement when you look down to your pretty polished pinkies, smile and think to yourself: nailed it.

It’s quick fashion at your finger tips. Literally.

Take a look at these inspiration pieces all found at BARGAIN prices on www.thelondonperfumecompany.com – I am loving OPI at the moment. They are professional with a purse-friendly price-tag!
